Printed Semiconductors

The New Printing Revolution

In the year 1439, the Gutenberg Printing Press started a revolution that changed the course of history by playing a role in the Renaissance, Reformation, Industrial Revolution, Scientific Revolution and the Knowledge-based economy of today.

NthDegree has sparked a new Printing Revolution by turning the printing press into a 3D manufacturing instrument used to create the world’s only fully functional printed semiconductor products.

NthDegree has invented a ground-breaking new method of transferring specific semiconductor properties to a chosen substrate using a printed process and proprietary inorganic semiconductor inks. These inks are made of microscopic functional devices (e.g. diodes, transistors, etc.), which are built using traditional wafer fabrication technology. Using these tiny semiconductor devices, Nth has patented processes that enable us to create functional inks; print them using standard high-speed printing presses; and convert them into final products.

Creating functional electronics through the printing process allows us to bypass the traditional (expensive and labor intensive) semiconductor processes of device packaging, thereby uniquely positioning Nth as a low cost, state-of-the-art producer.  Printing also substantially extends the variety of form factors, functionality and features we can offer to clients.

The concept of printed semiconductors is the base technology for all of our products, which include printed solid-state lighting and printed photovoltaics. The next generation of Nth products are already in development and are equally revolutionary.
